We offer quality learning experiences for children.
We are delighted to have formed a great relationship with St Michael’s Mount. Kerry, their education officer, has been welcoming our children to the island throughout the Spring and Summer Term. Kerry has invited the children to explore the harbour village on the island and has set up a range of engaging activities for the children to explore. They have learnt all about the islanders lives, local artists, the working lives of those who work on the island and been fully immersed in the legend of Cormoran the Giant.
For our first trip the children were accompanied by their parents and they reached the island by walking across the causeway at low tide.
For our second trip the children visited with nursery staff and they travelled to the Marazion on the bus and then travelled to the island by boat! What a memorable adventure!
Travelling to the island!
We explored a treasure trail, taking us all around the island village. The children really impressed us with their ability to recognise letters and numbers on the trail signs. They were amazing at having a good go writing them on their treasure trail cards too!
We cooled off in the shade of the learning hub and explored lots of Cornish stories. Kerry also told the children the story of Cormoran the giant which they were gripped by. She then surprised the children by opening her treasure chest and presenting each child with their own ‘giants heart’ stone. The children were enthralled by these and couldn’t believe they were allowed to take them home. Another memorable moment that the children have talked about long after the trip – was the semi circle of limpet shell that Kerry told them was a Giant’s toenail! This has really sparked their imaginations.
We enjoyed an ice cream or sorbet in the sunshine!
The children then walked across the causeway to the mainland, where we played in the park before catching 2 buses back to nursery! They particularly loved sitting on the top deck of the double decker!
We are incredibly proud of all the children for taking this big adventure in their stride, and for their wonderful play, learning and behaviour. We’d also like to say an enormous thank you to Kerry and all the staff and St Michael’s Mount family for welcoming us to the island.
