Bolitho Nursery is part of Healthy Under 5’s to promote and encourage healthy lifestyles from an early age.
Healthy Under 5s is designed to celebrate topics that providers may already be championing and explore new areas that could be included:
We will regularly share information and guidance for the above topics via email and incorporate the topics within the children’s play.
We have a wide selection of leaflets that are available for families to pick up.
In the Spring Term 2019 we were awarded our first TWO stickers for ‘Healthy Eating’ and ‘Dental Health’!
In the Autumn Term 2019 we achieved our FULL accrediation for all areas!
All Children are offered a drink of milk or water at snack times.
We ask families to provide a healthy snack of fruit or vegetables for morning and afternoon snack.
Morning snack is around 10am and afternoon snack at approximately 3:15pm.
It is important to us to support local businesses, and also to open up new experiences for the children we care for. We hope these projects will create deep and lasting connections with the community, and instil a healthy outlook on life.
In line with this thinking, the government’s free milk scheme for nursery children will be fulfilled using milk from Trink Dairy – a farm just outside St Ives.
At Trink, the Knowles family produce milk from grass-fed Friesian and Jersey cows; due to the way the cows are fed and cared for they produce milk rich in Omega-3 fats and vitamin E – this helps to boost immune systems, a clear benefit for children of nursery age.
We are really pleased to be working with Trink and are using the connection as a way of talking to our children about where our food comes from, and the importance of maintaining a healthy diet.
Children enjoy a range of activities such as:
Fun Fit Sessions
Healthy Movers Sessions
Workshops with The A is for Apple Project
Our lunchtimes are an important sociable part of the day. We provide a two course cooked lunch as an optional extra or you can provide a cold, healthy packed lunch from home. Hot lunches are £2.75 each. Packed lunches will be stored in the fridge until they are served.
Hot lunches are offered on a 4 week menu that provides a wide variety of choices for your child to enjoy.
We can accommodate children with special dietary requirements, please discuss this further when enquiring and you will be asked to complete a Setting Healthcare Plan with us when you register.
We offer to heat lunches provided from home for our children in our baby room, to support your weaning choices allowing for continuity from home. We ask for all lunches to arrive labelled with the child’s name and also the content to ensure we heat according to safe guidance.
Our Preschool children enjoy their snack and lunch in our Dining Room that creates a homely and sociable space for eating. We also feel it creates a gentle transition for children as they prepare to move to school and enjoy the larger, busier school canteen.
